Best AI app builders in 2026: how to actually choose
Lovable, Bolt.new, v0, Replit Agent, Base44, InsForge and HeroMate can all contribute to building a real app. A useful shortlist asks where you want to work, which backend services are included or connected, and how you will change and operate the app after launch. The first generated screen is only one part of that decision.
Sorted by those questions instead of a 1-10 polish score, the landscape splits into four useful lanes. Some products span more than one: Base44 has both a browser builder and a CLI for coding agents.
1. Agent-native platforms — the AI operates from your own IDE
In this lane, the coding agent you already use — Cursor, Claude Code, Codex or Windsurf — can operate the platform directly from your own repo, through a CLI or MCP. Some of these platforms also have a browser builder.
HeroMate combines a coding-agent path with a visual Studio on the same full-stack platform: Postgres, auth, storage, frontend hosting and declarative workflows with branching and triggers. After launch, your Mate can use selected app endpoints that the owner explicitly makes operable, within permissions and confirmation rules. That build-to-operation path is its best reason to be on the shortlist. Full breakdown: InsForge vs Supabase and where HeroMate fits.
InsForge is built around an agent-operated cloud stack, with Postgres, auth, storage, functions, compute and Sites for frontend hosting. Its code-first path is a good fit if you want an agent to build and deploy without adopting a visual app builder. It does not present business processes as HeroMate-style declarative flows.
